Goateed Troubadour

Upon first hearing of the Goateed Troubadour, one would not expect them to be a young person or someone who had mastered a wide array of musical instruments....

And you would be correct!

I am not young and I can barely play the guitar.

I am the Goateed Troubadour, aka William James Payton.  I'm a singer/song writer born in Indiana, growing old in Texas.  My songs fall mostly into the Americana genre with a 50/50 split between somber and light-hearted merriment, either way, I hope my audience enjoys them.

I started out writing poems, still do, then evolved into writing lyrics.  Why do I write songs?  Well, it's not a conscious effort on my part.  There is a need to express my experiences that drives me. It's not really a choice.  It's who I am.
